WE ARE AN INCLUSIVE GOSPEL AND R&B CHOIR
Inkloosiv Voices provides a creative home for semi-professional & professional artists of diverse racial backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities to explore and improve their craft in an auditioned setting that keeps the quality of music development extremely high.
Our vision is to build a space for everybody (and we mean everybody) to sing meaningful, high-quality choral music in a space free from harmful barriers and prejudices. We are honoured that we have become a spiritual home and a healing environment for our choristers who choose to find spiritual fulfillment through music, and those who have experienced exclusion in other artistic or religious spaces.
WHY GOSPEL MUSIC?
We are very intentional about choosing gospel repertoire that speaks to broader, universal messages of resilience, strength, and love - so that no matter who you are or what you believe in - you can connect to the music we sing.
Gospel music originated as a means of resisting oppression, and building perseverance, hope, and togetherness through song in the midst of adversity - specifically during the slave era. What better tool for us to spread messages of unity, self-empowerment, equity, justice, love, and inclusivity than through the roots of music and harmony baked into the history of liberation?
We also intentionally highlight queer & trans artists, as well as artists of colour when we choose our repertoire.

MEET OUR FOUNDER AND ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Jacen’s history is steeped in music and gospel culture. He’s worked professionally in the music industry for most of his life, but not without great challenges, navigating an industry full of prejudice and discrimination as a queer black man. Jacen’s vision for Inkloosiv Voices is over 20 years in the making: he’s always seen the rich potential for a space where he could sing the music that means the most to him in a way that fully aligns with his values. In short, if anybody in the city was going to start an inclusive choir, it’s him.
